Great return on investment
Cardiff staged the UK’s first WWE stadium event for 30 years when the superstars of wrestling descended on the city for the epic Clash at the Castle in September 2022.
The iconic Principality Stadium was transformed by a set designed to recreate Cardiff’s unique castle, creating a spectacle watched live by more than 62,000 fans inside the arena and millions more worldwide.
An independent economic impact study found that 75% of spectators at the Clash had travelled from outside Wales, helping generate an additional £21.8 million for the country’s economy.

Global television coverage and WWE’s huge social media following put Welsh tourism marketing content in front of important but hard-to-reach audiences, particularly in the USA.
That level of social media attention also made the event a valuable platform for Welsh Government efforts to tackle bullying among young people through collaborations between selected athletes and the Anti Bullying Alliance.
