A trailblazer for inclusive arts
Unity Festival is one of Europe's largest inclusive arts events and the only one of its kind in Wales.
First staged in 2008, the festival’s varied programme ranges from dance, theatre and circus to street performance and visual arts. The common factor is the inclusion of disabled, learning disabled and Autistic people in the creation and presentation of the work, including through participatory projects and workshops that culminate in performances at the festival.
Unity’s 10th anniversary in 2022 saw it expand from Cardiff to include satellite sites across Wales, as well as introduce a new film section and produce more digital content than ever before.
The festival’s biggest impact is on its performers and audiences, giving disabled people a platform for their talent, promoting positive images of disability and sending a clear message in support of inclusion across society.
