Event Impact
The basic environmental impacts listed here are really only about the presence (or not) of plans and systems to manage the way an event affects the environment.
Whilst this may seem simplistic, the presence of plans such as these would represent a big step forward for many events, and funders of events may therefore wish to simply measure whether events have these plans and systems in place.
Their presence is also seen as a valuable 'basic impact' as these plans will typically involve a scoping and identification of more detailed environmental impacts that could be measured at an intermediate and advanced level.
This resource outlines why events need to measure their environmental impacts, when this should be considered, and outlines some of the broad approached to measurement
This resource provides a list of questions that organisers should ask themselves when selecting environmental impacts to measure
Provides a matrix for potential environmental impacts based on their potential to measure strategic objectives whilst addressing operational considerations
Provides guidance to event organisers on what impacts and actions they should be considering at each stage of an event's lifecycle

BS 8901 is the new British Standard which has been developed specifically for the events industry with a purpose of helping the industry to operate in a more sustainable manner http://www.bsigroup.co.uk/en/Assessment-and-Certification-services/Management-systems/Standards-and-Schemes/BS-8901/
To harmonize the event industry's global efforts, ISO will develop an International Standard promoting the sustainable management of events. The standard will be produced by a new ISO project committee, ISO/PC 250, Sustainability in event management. About 30 countries are already involved as participants or observers. ISO 20121 is expected to be finalized in 2012 to coincide with the London Olympics. http://www.iso.org/iso/pressrelease.htm?refid=Ref1281
